Holy Communion & Imposition of Ashes
Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten journey which is a time of self-examination, penitence, self-denial, study, and preparation for Easter.
Now is the healing time decreed
for sins of heart and word and deed,
when we in humble fear record
the wrong that we have done the Lord.
(Latin, before 12th century)
Over the 40 days of the season of Lent, Christians are invited to study and repentance, reminding us of the forty days that Jesus spent in the wilderness, being tested by Satan.
Often, on Ash Wednesday, as an ancient sign of penitence, ashes are used to mark a Christian’s forehead with the sign of the cross.
Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ.
