Music is a very important part of worship at the Minster. Music lifts our praises to God and we enjoy a large Adult Choir, a substantial number of young Choristers, an informal Worship Band, and the services of skilled musicians. With St Mary Magdalene church’s Minster status have come new opportunities for music-making – particularly for Diocesan occasions such as Ordination and Confirmation services, as well as opportunities to gather for wide-reaching musical events such as our Palm Sunday ‘Come and Sing’.
We are superbly led by a team of organists on the recently-renovated 1882 Father Willis organ, and our lovely mellow Blüthner grand piano. Our Director of Music inspires singers to give of their very best. We sing hymns and worship songs old and new, and sometimes write our own!
There is a long tradition of music in the Church which we strive to uphold and develop. ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ (Rev 21.5)
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.Psalm 150
