Advent, Christmas & December 2025 Events at Taunton Minster

A season of light, reflection, celebration and community

As we enter the beautiful season of Advent and draw closer to Christmas, Taunton Minster warmly invites you to join us for a rich programme of worship, music, heritage and festive community events. Whether you are seeking a peaceful candlelit service, a family-friendly celebration, an opportunity to explore the historic tower, or a chance to support local makers, there is something for everyone this December.

Alongside our worship services, the Minster will also host a number of special events — including a Christmas concert with The Salamanca Band and Bugles of The Rifles, a Tower Open Day, and our annual Craft Fayre.

Below is the full list of services and events. All are welcome.


ADVENT & CHRISTMAS SERVICES

Sunday 30th November – From Darkness to Light

5.00 pm
A sequence of readings and music for Advent Sunday, beginning by candlelight.
Seasonal refreshments provided.

Sunday 7th December – Christingle Family Service

10.00 am
A joyful service for all ages.
Christingles are made during the service.

Thursday 18th December – Blue Christmas

7.00 pm
A reflective service offering comfort and space for those who have experienced loss, sadness or isolation.

Sunday 21st December – Candlelit Carol Service

5.00 pm
A traditional and atmospheric carol service by candlelight.

Christmas Eve – Wednesday 24th December

4.00 pm – Crib Service
Perfect for families and young children as we gather around the Nativity.

11.30 pm – Midnight Mass
Welcome Christmas in a beautiful Eucharist.

Christmas Day – Thursday 25th December

8.00 am – Holy Communion (BCP)
A peaceful traditional service using the Book of Common Prayer.

10.00 am – Family Communion – First Communion of Christmas
Celebrate the birth of Christ together on Christmas morning.


DECEMBER EVENTS

From Darkness to Light – Advent Sunday at Taunton Minster

Taunton Minster warmly invites you to a beautiful and atmospheric service to mark the beginning of Advent:

Sunday 30th November 2025
5.00 pm

This much-loved service gently carries us from the quiet stillness of darkness into the hopeful light of the coming Christ. The Minster is lit entirely by candlelight as the service begins, creating a moment of calm and reflection at the start of the Advent season.

Through a moving sequence of readings, music, and seasonal prayer, we reflect on the themes of waiting, hope, and expectation as we prepare our hearts for Christmas.

Seasonal refreshments will be available at the end of the service, and all are warmly welcome to attend.

Join us as we journey from darkness into light, and welcome the beginning of Advent together.

Tower Open Day

Saturday 13th December, 10.00 am – 3.00 pm
Explore Taunton’s iconic tower, see the peregrine falcon nesting site, visit the historic rooms, and watch bell ringing in action.
You can even have a go at chiming a bell!

£5 Adult • £2 Child • £10 Family
(Children must be 8 years & over.)


Christmas Craft Fayre

Saturday 13th December, 10.00 am – 3.00 pm
Browse a wide variety of handmade gifts, crafts, decorations and seasonal treats from local makers — perfect for Christmas shopping.


Christmas with The Rifles

Saturday 20th December, 6.00 pm
Featuring: The Salamanca Band and Bugles of The Rifles
Conductor: WO1 Richard Cregan
With: The Amici Choir

A stirring and festive evening of military musicianship, carols, and Christmas favourites.
Free admission with free refreshments at the end.
